If you have Seborrheic Eczema then you’ve probably tried many different types of treatments, and while some of them may have worked short term nothing that you’ve used has really helped get rid of it completely.

Well the bad news is that not a lot will work effectively and many sufferers have mixed results from both prescribed and store bought remedies. But you probably already knew that having tried numerous creams, treatments and so called solutions over the years.

That’s why people find that even professional dermatologists can’t always help since what works for one patient might not work for the next one making prescribing something quite hit and miss.

Most sufferers say that steroid creams do work, but because of the negative health concerns for using steroid creams over a long period of time (and the fact that they lose their effectiveness over time anyway) they are looking for something that is better for them and helps control their eczema at the same time.

Avoiding known triggers such as the winter cold weather, stress, lack of sleep and a poor diet can help but won’t improve the situation overall.

Good shampoos for those with their seborrheic eczema on their scalp are those by Selsun and Nizoral (ok on scalp but doesn’t seem to work well on the face). Both are mild enough to not aggravate any scalp conditions yet still effective enough to wash your hair with.

Many people also say applying natural yoghurt mixed with one teaspoon of coconut oil and letting it sit on your head or face is helpful and soothing.

Drinking lots of water during the day will help keep the skin moisturised from the inside out and help keep the dryness at bay, so try drinking at least six to eight glasses a day. It’s also important to keep your electrolytes up so drinking sports drinks as well as water is a good choice. Of course just drinking water on its own isn’t enough.

If it’s a sunny day try and get outside and let the sun on as much of your skin as possible. Yes you can even go nude if you have a private backyard (although many people prefer to use underwear at least). Sunbathing with no clothes can clear up psoriasis and eczema in as little as two weeks for some seb derm sufferers.

And it makes sense that sunlight would play an important role in the skin’s health since a lack of Vitamin D has been liked to many illnesses.

It’s not only adults that get seborrheic eczema as it’s common in children and toddlers as well. Treating it with children is much the same as with adults although you may be less inclined to use steroid creams or harsh products.

Oilatum has gotten some good reviews from mothers whose toddlers have this on their bodies. You can get some for the bath and also in cream form.
