If your doctor or dermatologist has recently diagnosed your skin condition to eczema and explained which type you have they might have told you the best treatments to take and may have even prescribed a cream or pill to take.

Usually the treatment is based on a number of factors which includes your past medical history the current severity or your eczema and what type it is: (atopic, nummular etc). The method of treatment for each type of eczema is usually different for the type of eczema that you may have.

Different medications and treatments do different things but the basic treatment is to help reduce any inflammation of the skin, control the itching and clear up the infection.

Rarely is just one type of treatment effective and many times you will need to try a number of different options to see which one works best for you. Studies have shown that a combination of treatments is usually the best method for clearing up eczema with both lifestyle changes along with creams and pills to control skin inflammation. Natural therapies are also popular and are proving to be just as effective and have fewer side effects than prescription medicines.

The most common medication for eczema that doctors prescribe is usually a topical cream which is applied to the skin with the intent of healing the eczema condition however in very severe cases phototherapy is being used. Phototherapy uses light to heal the cells from within.

Fortunately, with both natural and medical therapies, most eczema can be controlled and people can live very regular normal lives without having to worry too much.

That’s not to say that it will disappear completely! Eczema can be stubborn and symptoms can flare up at any time. Many times lifestyles factors and stress can bring on an onset of eczema so make sure you talk to your dermatologist at these times.
