Eczema Remedies – Home Remedies to Ditch the Itch
- Image via Wikipedia
I hate eczema – there I said it. I know you are thinking it too. When I first got it, I was like ‘why do I have to suffer this horrible red itchy rash’ but fortunately over time I’ve learnt some secrets to help clear up eczema so here are some of my home eczema remedies:
Oatmeal baths
One of my favorite treatments is to soak in an oatmeal bath. Just grab a few handfuls of any oatmeal and place it in a piece of cotton fabric. Tie up the ends so the oatmeal can’t get out and throw it in the bath with you. It will make your bath all milky and it is so soothing and lovely. If you don’t have any fabric then you can put the oatmeal straight in the water but it is messy that way.
Make sure you keep your bath water luke warm as hot water can dry out your skin.
Avoid fake nails
I found this out the hard way. Do not go into any nail salon or buy any fake nail products. The acrylic manicure products that they use has been proven by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation to cause “frequent and obvious cases of dertmatitisâ€.
It’s not just salons either, the kits you buy at home are just as bad.
Put your washing machine cycle on a double rinse.
You want to make sure that all of the detergents used to wash your clothes are completely washed out so put your rinse cycle on twice to be extra sure.
Milk can soothe itching.
Milk is much better than water at soothing any itching. Pour a glass of milk and add some ice cubes to it. Wait for a few minutes and then soak a cotton gauze pad in the milk and apply to your irritated skin. Keep re-soaking and re-applying for about 10 minutes. This method is particular good for children (but don’t let them drink it – yuk!)
