So you already know that you have eczema so I won’t go into giving you a definition of what eczema is and what it looks like (if you do want to know there are plenty of other articles on this blog that you can find out. No – you are ready this post because you want to know some natural remedies for eczema, so let’s get right to it shall we?

The top three natural remedies for eczema are probiotics, topical creams based on herbal remedies and gamma linolenic acid, so let’s look at each one it a bit more detail.

1. Probiotics

Probiotics consist of good bacteria which normally live in your digestive tract. They suppress the bad bacteria and keep your immune system functioning at the best it can be. Since most eczema is a result of a depressed immune system – getting it back into shape can mean that the body can then heal itself of any conditions it might have – like your eczema.

Probiotics have been particularly beneficial for babies who have eczema taken within their milk or food (if they are on solids). Pregnant women who take probiotics also have less chance of having a child who has eczema.

A good probiotic supplement will be available at most health food stores.

2. Topical Herbal Creams & Gels

Organic and Herbal creams have shown promising results in the treatment of eczema. In particular the herbal extracts of chamomile, licorice and witch hazel have helped reduce or eliminate eczema in some patients.

Just a quick note that some people are sensitive to chamomile to make sure you test it on clear skin before applying it to your eczema affected areas.

3. Gamma Linolenic Acid

Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) is an essential fatty acid found in supplements such as evening primrose oil and borage oil. GLA helps correct skin inflammation which is why some people claim it helps eczema. While studies are still inconclusive as to whether it is really effective or not, taking evening primrose oil or borage oil certainly can’t hurt and may even be good for you.

Take the dosage recommended on your bottle.
