Eczema Causes: What Are The Common Causes Of Eczema?
There are many different types of eczema with the most common being atopic eczema (or atopic dermatitis) which refers to the red itchy skin inflammation that can appear anywhere on the body and there are also many different eczema causes that vary from person to person.
It can affect both babies and adults, with most children growing out of it by the age of 3, and usually occurs in families with a history of allergies and other skin conditions.
So why do some people get it and other’s don’t?
It comes down to the immune system and how it functions. Some people’s immune systems can’t tolerate irritants such as soap and detergents and as such it causes a reaction on the skin. However it isn’t just household items that can trigger eczema, it could also be due to diet or even environmental allergens that can’t be controlled.
For others even stress or changes in temperature is enough for their immune system to create an outbreak of eczema.
Let’s take a quick look at the most common eczema causes:
Temperature changes
Soaps, detergents & perfumes
Pet hair, animal dander
Dust & Pollen
Stress
Wool and synthetic fabrics
Solvents and chemicals
Depressed immune system due to colds & flu
Food allergies
Sweat
While many of these can be easily avoided such as fabric, detergents and solvents, there are many others that can’t be controlled so it’s a matter of trying to treat your eczema from both inside and out.
That means a change of lifestyle and even taking up activities such as yoga that are known to help strengthen your mind body connection and improve your immune system function.
